Description:

    • As a Junior Data Engineer, you will help understand business requirements, and translate those into technical requirements, design patterns and stories for development.
    • Additionally, as a Junior Data Engineer, you will be assigned a Senior Data Engineer, Senior Data Architect or a Partner as your Mentor Liaison point. They will be your go-to person for helping you learn and understand more about Data Engineering.
    • You will have the opportunity to explore new features and functionality across the various vendor products that we partner with, as we have a deep relationship with most of these vendors and work on their product pipelines.
    • You will also have the opportunity as we grow to potentially manage larger teams, and work on R&D projects for “product” based work, as we look to develop SAAS products and our own enabling technologies.
    • Above all, you will have an appetite to learn, be proactive, self-motivating, explorative, and challenging. You will look for opportunities for improvements in processes and engineering and be happy to work on your own as well as part of teams.

    Key Duties and Responsibilities


    • A team player, with enthusiasm and a passion for data that enables our clients to succeed.
    • Understanding Requirements, turning them in to documented requirements with use cases, and translating them to tested units of code or execution for delivery.
    • Produce and justify solution designs and address implementation concerns.
    • Translating business requirements into technical specifications, including data streams, integrations, transformations, databases, and data warehouses.
    • Creation of data pipelines and delivery of data including defining and implementing data-flows, how they are managed and change management.
    • Working with the full SDLC (Service Delivery Life-Cycle) to deliver data products.
    • Helping our other Data Engineers and Architects with defining data frameworks, standards and principles, including modelling, metadata, security, reference data such as product codes and client categories, and master data such as clients, vendors, materials, and employees.
    • Assisting Data Architects with defining reference architecture, which is a pattern that others can follow to create and improve data systems.
    • Defining data flows, i.e., which parts of the organization generate data, which require data to function, how data flows are managed, and how data changes in transition.

    Key Skills


    As a Junior Data Engineer, you are expected to be pursuing, understanding and aiming to be well versed in various technologies and products which support a clients’ data landscape. The following non-exhaustive list features some key skills involved in the role – you aren’t expected to have all of these, basic understanding of some will help of course:


    •SQL

    •MS Office

    •Understanding of data management capabilities, from CDC through to visualisation

    •Understanding of Data Profiling and categorisation techniques

    •Ability to work in iterative environments and understanding of tech-debt

    •Snowflake (happy to train to SnowPro Core certified or above certification)

    •Modern Programming Languages Experience, eg. Python

    •Software Version Control Systems such as Github

    •Understanding and approach to modern software product release practices

    •Data Modelling

    •Data Architecture (eg. DAMA)

    •Master Data Management (MDM)

    •Understanding and application of data security – GDPR

    •Understanding and application of data security – PCI-DSS

    •Understanding of Data Privacy techniques and software alternatives

    •Understanding of cloud technologies and Software as a Service, such as AWS, Azure, GCP, Snowflake etc
